The Nightingale Unit
The Nightingale Macmillan Unit is based within the Royal Derby Hospital.
The unit is a 20-bedded, specialist palliative care unit, which provides care to patients with advanced progressive and life limiting illness. This includes patients with cancer and non malignant diseases, such as motor neurone disease and end stage organ failure.
Patients are referred to the unit for assessment and management of complex symptoms.
The Palliative Medicine Department is made up of Hospital Palliative Care Team, Community Palliative Care Team, Outpatients Clinics, The Enhanced Bed Team, End of Life Care team and a Lymphoedema Service. These teams are able to offer a wide range of services to our patients and families which includes complementary therapy, the support of a creative workers, palliative care counsellors and a bereavement support services.
Your generous donations to the unit (fund 14001) are used to provide patients with the best possible quality of life, and to provide them and their families with psychological, social and spiritual support. Donations are also used to purchase equipment, to enhance the environment and facilities of the unit, to fund education courses for staff and to fund palliative care and lymphoedema research.
