Public art plays an important role across our hospitals. It helps with wayfinding, enhances privacy and dignity in courtyard spaces, creates welcoming environments, and provides large‑scale artworks for everyone to enjoy.

The Badgers' Sett

Located at the Royal Derby Hospital, the badgers' sett is a collection of willow badgers by artist, Emma Parkins.

The "Thank You" sculptures

The thank you sculptures are located at Queen's Hospital in Burton and the Royal Derby Hospital. These colourful sculptures were created by artist, Jenny Pickford. The designs were chosen by our staff and installed just after the COVID-19 pandemic.

Grace in Motion - the swan sculptures

The installation, which can be found in the atrium at Queen's Hospital in Burton provides a warm and uplifting welcome to patients, staff and visitors alike. The sculptures were created by renowned willow artist Emma Parkins and Miles Halpin features five majestic white willow swans captured in a moment of movement and light.

The Bluebell sculpture

The bluebell sculpture is located at the Royal Derby Hospital at entrance 24. The piece was designed by artist, Jenny Pickford.

The Butterfly Rainbow

In May 2020, Damien Hirst created Butterfly Rainbow to show support for the NHS in the Coronavirus crisis. The work is made up of bands of coloured butterfly wings, one of the artist’s best‐known motifs. A limited edition of the work was produced with all profits donated to NHS Charities Together, raising a total of £1,508,172.
