Chris Takes on London Marathon to Support Nightingale Macmillan Unit in Derby

Chris Dornan, from Derby, is gearing up to conquer the London Marathon later this month in a bid to raise funds for the Nightingale Macmillan Unit, situated at The Royal Derby Hospital. Securing a coveted spot in this year’s marathon through the ballot, Chris is determined to use the opportunity to support the unit, driven by personal ties as his partner, Hannah, serves as a senior sister there. “I chose to raise funds for the unit as the team there work so hard day-to-day to ensure all patients receive the best care possible and that their families are well supported during their time in hospital”, said Chris.

Every Mile for Grandma: Ousman’s Marathon Mission

Ousman Khizer has set himself a lifelong challenge to run all six world major marathons. It’s an extraordinary goal that demands time, resilience and determination, but every mile he runs will be in memory of someone very special – his beloved grandma, Sakina Bibi

The friendliest place on the planet: how the NMU helped Eleri live her final chapter

The Nightingale Macmillan Unit (NMU) at the Royal Derby Hospital is a specialist palliative care unit that provides comfort, dignity and personalised support to patients nearing the end of life. Funded in part by charitable donations, the NMU offers more than just clinical care, it provides holistic therapies, creative activities and a warm, welcoming environment where families can spend their final precious moments together.

A beard of many colours: Martin’s year-long charity challenge

Retired gas fitter and Mickleover Golf Club member, Martin Wright from Burton on Trent, is turning heads and raising funds, one colourful beard at a time. In support of Derby & Burton Hospitals Charity, Martin has committed to dyeing his beard a different colour every month from April 2025 to March 2026. His unique idea was inspired by Mickleover Golf Club selecting the hospital charity as their Captain’s Charity this financial year.
